Winter Family Photos
I hear it all the time: the winter is no good for family photos. The weather is bad, nothing’s green and the holidays are stressful. I like to turn these three objections around and say winter is the perfect time of year for taking family photos.
True, the weather can be a challenge in Colorado, but, come on, 300+ days of sunshine and storms that come one day and leave the next? It’s a perfect scenario for making great photos, especially if you and your photographer are flexible enough to move when the weather is right.
I know, nothing’s green. Good. Then your photos might look different from everyone else’s. Winter’s color palate can be on the cold side with its whites, blues, dormant trees and dead grasses. It might at first seem like the worst backdrop for family photos, but, if you pick the right day, that cold snow, combined with the winter’s sun, can make warm faces seem to glow warmer. And green is all around us in Colorado, you just need to search it out. Many open spaces along Colorado’s Front Range offer anything from open mountain meadows to dense forests. If you need help, Stark Bellamy Photography has a list of great places you can go. We’ve been known to scout locations ahead of time for clients just to be sure it’s going to work out. And, if you’re looking for a holiday photo, nothing says Colorado Christmas like a snow-filled aspen grove. We have some choice locations picked out for just such an occasion.
Ok, now the big one. Stressful holidays. We can’t promise to make your holidays stress free, but if you carve out a few hours for family photos, we can almost guarantee a walk in the woods as we make beautiful photos will take your mind off all the shopping and heavy traffic… at least for the duration of the shoot.
So if winter seems like a good time for your family photos, drop us a line. We’ll put together a list of a few places and clear some spots on the calendar to make it happen.
