Blog Stanley Hotel Winter Wedding

Why do you plan your wedding at the Stanley Hotel in February? Because it is the Stanley and it is awesome year round! So what if its windy! The Victorian hotel in Estes Colorado is a icon and in case you didn’t know, it is also beautiful.

Christina and Kenny had a simple plan, they wanted a small Stanley Hotel winter wedding with close friends and family. The ceremony itself would be in the Music Room, again iconic, then they would all move to The Lodge for the mid-day reception. In between the ceremony and reception we would do bridal portraits inside and after the reception we’d take our chances and shoot in the wind outside.

The Music Room is reported to be haunted. Some say the piano, once tuned by John Philip Sousa, plays by itself (it’s not a player piano). It stayed quiet during Christina and Kenny’s ceremony. All we know is with the mid day ceremony the sunlight streamed into the room making for a bright and dramatically lit ceremony.

The Lodge was perfect for the mellow reception Christina and Kenny wanted: Its dark wood, big windows and some of the best food I’ve ever had at a wedding, wrapped the whole event up in a neat little bow.

Now the best part, at least for us the photographers was the grand staircase! It is an amazing place to make photos. Again, we had amazing natural light streaming through the large windows shining on the adorable newly wed couple. Check out the full Stanley Hotel Winter Wedding here.

Kenny got ready quickly and left the hotel room to finish setting up in the Music Room, leaving Christina to get ready for their big day. Christina is an event planer at the University of Northern Colorado so she is no stranger to pressure. Even with several cute little flower girls bouncing around the room in their blue dresses, she dressed, did her own hair and make up and was ready to go on time. Then it was off to the ceremony by way of the Stanley Hotel’s afore-mentioned grand staircase.

These two were so into each other that it made photographing their Colorado winter wedding easy, despite the cold and wind. It sounds cheesy, but their love really did warm it up… a bit.
