Kathryn and David’s Mount Vernon Country Club Wedding
David and Kathryn’s wedding stretched from the busyness of the Denver to the tranquil setting that is Mount Vernon Country Club just outside of Golden, CO.
David and his groomsmen got ready at the Downtown Hyatt where they played dice and had a few cocktails before getting ready for portraits near Buffalo Bill’s Grave on Lookout Mountain high above Golden. David had a relatively large crew – 6 including his friend who doubled as the officiant – so I knew it would be a bit of a challenge to wrangle them into a good portrait. But these guys surprised me. They did their share of goofing off but they were all game for doing whatever it took to make good photos for David.
While I was photographing the guys and making my way up to the venue, Eric was making photos of Kathryn and her bridesmaids at the couple’s home in Lakewood. I’ll let Eric recount that part of the story including a wayward Uber trip that delayed their arrival.
Once everyone arrived at the venue, the jitters and seriousness of the moment took hold, causing some funny and nervous moments that carried over into the ceremony. After the ceremony was complete and the jitters wore off, we made some portraits of the couple in some pretty amazing light. And then it was time for David and Kathryn to really cut loose. And cut loose they did. Dinner was followed by a gelato bar and dancing – lots of dancing.
I suppose it was appropriate that the wedding stared in the city and in the tranquility of the mountains. That’s how I see this couple. David and Kathryn have their wilder cosmopolitan side (see our engagement photos at the DCPA) and they also have their warm caring side that was so apparent from their connection to their family and friends.
