Groom’s First Look | Colorado Wedding Photographers

Blog

There is something special about the moment of a groom’s first look, that split second when he sees his bride for the first time. Whether it is as she is coming down the aisle or in an orchestrated first look before the wedding ceremony it is a moment absolutely filled with emotion for a man about to be married. At least it was for me.

Groom’s First Look

There are essentially two ways to do the groom’s first look:

Groom’s First Look #1:

The good old fashioned way of making him wait until his bride comes down the aisle. We prefer this method as it is the most natural way for the first look to play out. You also have the added drama with all your guests watching his expression. We also think it makes the moment a little more genuine. The problem with this one is any variables that could interfere with the shot, like a guest jumping out to take his own picture, or the groom standing in bad light, but these are rare and easy to over come.

Groom’s First Look #2:

The orchestrated method; there is nothing wrong with doing it this way. In fact for us photographers it is easier because we can set it up just how we want it to work out. The groom will be standing in good light with a clean background and the way we set it up the groom should turn the proper direction so his face is to the camera. As I said we prefer the old school way of doing it but this does make for some great private moments for the bride and groom before the wedding. It also makes it easier to go and do portraits before the wedding and we don’t have to keep hiding the bride or groom from one another.

Groom’s First Look #3:

This is not to do a first look at all. Get ready together! It does make for some really sweet little moments as the two of you gussy yourselves up. I think in many ways this is the most intimate and a fun way to go if you aren’t into the other methods.

What ever you choose it doesn’t matter. Do it the way you want to and we’ll make amazing photos of it, because its your day and you should do it the way you want to, not how some blog or magazine tells you to. If you want us to photograph the groom’s first look give us a shout! We’d love to plan it with you!
